The inaugural Velo Vietnam Zwift TT Battle saw 40 riders from 16 nations take on the Tempus Fugit and Bologna TT courses during the lockdown period
The first VV Zwift Battle champions to be crowned were Pete Walker (Australia) and Vi Nguyen (Vietnam & riding in the US).
Clinton Leong of Australia adopted an all-in tactic to try and close in on Pete on the Bologna TT, but it wasn’t to be and he finished a strong second on ‘GC’ defending that spot while keeping Velo Vietnam’s David in third.
The Bologna TT – an exact replica of the real thing. The climb isn’t long, but it’s very long.
Vi’s lead didn’t ever look in danger, but at the next battle Alex Nichol will be back stronger – she told VV she has got her “grrrrrrr back” during this contest. Moreover, Matador’s Sarah Schneider, who put in a strong performance in the initial round on Tempus Fugit before pulling her result due to trainer power reading issues, promises to be back to ride again.
Vi Nguyen, our inaugural TT champ
Many were asking what bike choice to make ahead of the Bologna TT. While we did not make any like-for-like tests, we can tell you that the top 3 riders all chose TT set ups for the Bologna Time Trial. Bikes used included the Zwift TT rig with Zipp 202s and the Felt TT frame with Zipp 808s.
Pain Face Contest
We also had a pain face contest to go along with the battle – here are some of the best (worst?) shots from he Bologna TT:
Andy – rock star on turbo?
Mathieu – HAIR on turbo!
Jaap – Drunk on Turbo?
David – Angry on Turbo?
Dan – Relief on Turbo?
Dash – Ooft on Turbo!
Pain Cave Photos
We also ran a pain cave photo contest – here is the clear winner…
