Northern Frontier: With Added Swithbacks

In 2019 we ran the first edition of our 4 day Northern Frontier ride as a test. The riders loved it and we first thought we’d just stick with that exact format for the second edition, but now we can’t resist adding something rather special….

With a couple of days in the North of Vietnam with my bike,  without family, and following a few days checking out amazing running trails, there was only ever one direction I was going to head for a 2 day research trip: north east.

Together with good friend, Nick, the ride began near Cao Bang city.

Cao Bang is the first night stop of the Northern Frontier route on stage 1. The plan was to check out a new route which might replace the original stage 2 of the Northern Frontier.

To cut a long story short, the whole route as we rode it will definitely not feature as part of the Northern Frontier four stager. The Frontier ride is made for road bikes and what we rode will definitely not please most road cyclists!

However, the key switchback climb of the trip can and will be incorporated.

We will add these switchbacks on to the existing four stages for riders who feel able to add extra distance to the already challenging Northern Frontier route.

Update: The next Northern Frontier Ride is set for Oct 23-26 2021. To register your interest please contact us on ride@velovietnam.cc as slots are limited.
